Paua is the maori name given to three New Zealand species of large edible sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs. Known in the US and Australia as abalone. The shell is recognised as a precious taonga in Maoridom.
These are polished pieces of paua shell, popular for craft, decorating items such as kete and wall hangings and jewellery.
Available Highly polished in small or large piece size (both in 100 gram bags) or Satin finish which are also polished but not as shiny as the highly polished. Satin finish is sold in a 250gm bulk bag which has approximately 100+ assorted size pieces including large pieces.
Note the $1 coin in the photo to give you an idea of the size of the pieces.
The number given next to the sizes is an approximate guide based on me counting the number of pieces in one bag - we don't count every bag sorry!

I've ordered this previously and been very happy with the pieces I received, but this time I'm very unimpressed.
The bags the pieces were in split, so they were completely loose in the packaging when they arrived. Not only were the majority of the pieces I got much smaller than advertised, but most of the larger pieces were much more grey and dull than those in the pictures, as if I received satin finish pieces rather than the high gloss ones I ordered. I also emailed to request a replacement or refund and was completely ignored.
Paua shell pieces arrived quickly and were as advertised. Very pleased with the selection of paua shell pieces I received.
The pāua pieces are beautiful and finished perfectly. Just what I needed and wanted. Thank you so much for a great product. 👍🏼
Great sized pieces. Perfect for my needs.
