Introductory offer on our new handcarved bone Heru hair combs - $5 off Tiki & Manaia!

Heru (hair comb) carved from real beef bone. Large (18cm long) 4 prong comb. Tiki symbolizes ancestral connection, fertility, protection and the spiritual power (mana) of lineage. Believed to represent ancestors or the demigod Tiki, who is known in Maori creation stories as the first mortal man. Large head represents childbirth and the continuation of life through the generations - the baby becomes the ancestor.

Also available in Manaia, Koru, Whale tail, Pikorua twist and Pikorua triple twist.

Heru are used to hold and decorate hair in a bun (top knot). Traditionally the head was considered the most sacred part of the body. Because hair was believed to retain a person's spiritual essence the Heru served as a way to honour and protect that spiritual connection.

Available with or without woven kete (bag). Kete makes a very nice gift presentation and safe storage.

Weights; Heru 55 grams. Kete 16 grams.
